The reigning 100m and 200m world record holder, Jamaica's sprinting legend Usain Bolt, said that he takes the most pride in his 200m world record, rather than the 100m WR which made him the fastest human in the world in 2009.
Arguably one of the most decorated sprinters, Bolt's numerous record-breaking achievements include eight Olympic golds, 11 World Championship titles, and three Diamond League trophies.
During the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, Usain Bolt shattered both individual world records, clocking 19.19 seconds in the 200m and 9.58 seconds in the 100m. In the 200m, the Olympian broke his own record with a time of 0.11 seconds, while in the 100m, he clocked 9.58 seconds to win his maiden world championship title.
Furthermore, the 37-year-old also holds the Olympic records of 9.69 seconds in 100m and 19.30 seconds in 200m. His 36.84-second finish in the 4x100 relay at the 2012 London Olympics is both a world and Olympic record.
In an exclusive with "The Obi One Podcast" on Thursday, July 18, Usain Bolt was asked to choose between the 100m and 200m that makes him the most proud. To which he replied:
"It's the 200m. For me the 200m are like my baby." [12:11 onwards]
While talking about the 100m, Usain Bolt said:
"That's what everbody loves because the 100m is like the pinnacle because it has the fastest man in the world with it." [12:25 onwards]
Usain Bolt predicts his 200m WR will be broken before his 100m
Usain Bolt revealed in the "Obi One Podcast" that he chose to run in the 100m category to avoid the 400m. He recalled making a deal with his coach to let him run a 100m event, and if he ran quick enough, he could choose the 100m, otherwise, he would participate in the 400m as his coach had advised. Bolt ended up finishing second at a 100m event in Greece, and the rest, as they say, is history.
He might have chosen the 200m as his WR of choice, but the runner also believes that the record is more likely to be broken before the 100m. Speaking about this last year, Bolt told World Athletics (as quoted by Olympics.com):
"I really don't know, I think the 100m's going to be harder (to break) because it's quicker, and if you make a mistake during the race you're not going to get it. It's a lot more technical so I think maybe the 100m's going to go last."
However, Usain Bolt also mentioned that he is not worried about any of them (records being broken), as it would take some special talent to surpass his feat.
