With the presence of notable stars such as Hampton Morris and Jordan Delacruz, the USA weightlifting team is all set to shine bright at the Paris Olympics 2024. The United States of America weightlifting team consists of various prominent stars, such as Olivia Reeves, Mary Theisen-Lappen, and Wesley Kitts.
However, among them, a few stand out and will be the top contenders to raise the American flag high at the South Paris Arena 6.
So let's go into detail and take a look at some of the American weightlifters who are set to be in top contention for medals at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
American weightlifters to watch out for at the Paris Olympics 2024
#3. Jourdan Delacruz (49 Kg category)
26-year-old Jourdan Delacruz will be one of the first names to keep a keen eye on at the quadrennial event in Paris starting from July 26. With immense experience behind her, the Texas-born swimmer will be a force to reckon with in the Women's 49 Kg category.
Delacruz also represented the USA at the 2020 Olympics and this will be her second outing at the mega event. Her first Olympic appearance failed to create the impact she would have sought as she wasn't able to obtain a rank. In Paris, the 2023 World Weightlifting Championships bronze medalist will look to show her full prowess.
#2. Wesley Kitts (109 Kg category)
The second weightlifter to watch out for from the USA team is none other than two-time Pan American Games gold medalist, Wesley Kitts.
The 34-year-old will be stepping in for the second Olympic Games of his career after his eighth (clean and jerk) and ninth-ranked (snatch) performances four years ago in Tokyo.
#1. Hampton Morris (61 Kg category)
The third name on this list is 20-year-old weightlifter Hampton Morris. The talented prodigy will be competing in the first Olympic Games of his career, and it will be interesting to see how his story unfolds on the global stage after his superb performances in recent years.
Hampton Morris won three consecutive gold medals in the 61 Kg category of the Pan American Championships from 2021-2023. He also clinched the silver medal at the IWF World Cup held in March this year. Morris is also the current world record holder (both junior and senior) in the clean and jerk category for the 61 Kg weight bracket.
