Simone Biles' husband, NFL safety Jonathan Owens, has faced a lot of backlash after he made a statement about his initial relationship with the Olympian. However, Biles has risen to the occasion several times to defend her husband from such criticism.

In a conversation on The Pivot Podcast, hosted by three former NFL players - Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor and Channing Crowder - Owens opened up about his initial relationship with Biles and said that he did not know who she was or her accomplishments before he started dating her.

He also revealed that they entered their relationship at a very unexpected time, and Simone Biles was the one who made the first move, claiming himself to be "the catch."

"She pops up and I'm like, 'Let me see who this'... I had never really paid attention to gymnastics, so it piqued my curiousity. I just hadn't heard of her, and when I told her that, that's one of the things she liked... I always say the men are the catch," Owens stated.

Following this statement, Owens faced a backlash from gymnastics fans. Simone Biles addressed this criticism on X and defended her husband.

Notably, standing up for Jonathan Owens is something Biles has done several times before. Here are three such times when the gymnast wasn't having any when it came to fans and observers targeting her husband.

Three times Simone Biles stood up for husband Jonathan Owens

#1 Owens faces criticism for "not knowing" Biles

After witnessing the backlash to her husband's comments on The Pivot Podcast, Simone Biles shared her first reaction on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the controversy. She defended Owens by tweeting a picture of a confused kid scratching her head and wrote:

"Are y'all done yet?"

Owens, flattered by the gesture, re-posted her tweet and wrote:

"I love my baby man❤️😂"

#2 Biles defends Owens on the 'Call Me Daddy' podcast

In a conversation on the podcast "Call Me Daddy" in April, Simone Biles once again addressed the reactions Owens had received and opened up about them to host Alex Cooper. She maintained that there was nothing wrong with what Owens had said in his interview on The Pivot and that she was deeply hurt by the response that followed.

"There was nothing foul about it," Biles said. "That really hurt that they were talking about my husband like that. Because for me, it's like, talk about me all you want, but don't come for my family, never."

She said that the interview had nothing to do with her, and she had wanted Owens to have his moment.

"First of all, that interview had nothing to do with me. It was all for him, so I think they were mad that he didn't include me in the interview. But he has to have his moments, too, and I let him have it."

She further added:

"They hurt my feelings. I broke down, and I'm like, why are you guys talking about my husband like this? You don't know him, you don't know who he is and if anybody's met him, they know he's the sweetest guy and will do anything for anybody."

#3 Biles stands up to people being disrespectful toward her husband on social media

Simone Biles stood up for her husband yet again when the netizens contiued their harsh comments on the NFL player in May. Owens was present to cheer for the gymnast from the stands at the Core Hydration Classic and was seen with a pen and paper, seemingly taking note of her scores.

This created a buzz on the internet once again as the fans again pointed to his earlier statements and mockingly asked the broadcasters to clarify if they knew who he was.

Biles gave a blunt reply to such comments on her Instagram Stories, making it clear that she would not entertain them anymore and would simply block users who target the couple.

"I'm going to quickly address this, the joke was never a joke! Y'all are blatantly being disrespectful to my relationship & my husband," Biles wrote. "So I'm gonna go ahead and say this one time. Respectfully, fu** off & if you keep commenting or tweeting at me I'm just going to block you. Simple as that."

Simone Biles has qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics and is poised to represent her country on the Olympic stage for the third time. She scored the highest points at the US Gymnastics Trials - 117.225 - while Suni Lee came in second with 111.675.

After Dominique Dawes in 2000, Biles is the first American woman to qualify for three Olympic teams in consecutive Games.
