The US women's soccer team (USWNT) defeated Mexico by claiming a 1-0 victory in a friendly match at Red Bull Arena. The match, one of the two tune-ups for the US team before they head to the 2024 Paris Olympics, garnered love from some fans, while others felt that the women should better their game in Paris.

The USWNT emerged victorious at the 2022 CONCACAF W Championships by defeating Canada, 1-0, in the final. After sweeping the win, the US team earned the most coveted Olympic seat, since the tournament served as the gateway to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Building up to the highly anticipated Summer Games, the US women's soccer team played a friendly match with Mexico at Red Bull Arena. Their effort secured them the victory but some fans felt they were not at capacity.

The USWNT was unable to break through in the first half and Sophia Smith could only score a goal in the 64th minute. The other players like Sam Coffey and Lindsey Horan also missed their opportunities in the scramble in front of Mexico's goal in the first half.

The X handle of the US Women's Soccer Team celebrated the win ahead of the big show in Paris.

"FINAL IN JERSEY!!!!"

In response, one soccer fanatic claimed that the women missed a couple of opportunities in the match.

Another fan was not pleased to watch the US women's soccer team deliver an average performance against 'the likes of Mexico'.

"Sadly, this was not an impressive performance against the likes of Mexico. Has to be much, much better."

Another fan praised the win but alerted the team of the Olympic level.

"Solid performance finishing has to be better in the Olympics.."

Here are some of the other reactions:

"This is life after Alex Morgan. 1-0 is a bad result for USA," a fan commented.
"A win is a win. Great game for USWNT and Emma Hayes!" a fan tweeted.
"Okay...we need to do something different cause Mexico didn't qualify for Olympics yet we struggled," tweeted a fan.

The USWNT goal scorer Sophia Smith shed light on the team working in unison ahead of the Games

In February 2024, Mexico defeated the USWNT at the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup. The US team avenged that loss and claimed the victory, 1-0, against Mexico in the tune-up to Paris.

However, the goalscorer Sophia Smith felt she wasn't at her best but promised a better showdown in the days to come.

"I should have put away a few more to begin with, and I hold myself to a higher standard than that. I think myself and us want more, we can definitely put more away, but it shows the different ways we are creating and working together," she said. (via The Associated Press)

The USWNT will go head-on with the Costa Rican team on Tuesday at Audi Field in Washington, their last match before heading to Paris.
