Yohan Blake opens up on witnessing a lack of support amid a tough season

Yohan Blake spent his 2024 battling with injuries and missed out on qualification for the Paris Olympics, making it a very tough year for him. Amid this, he said that he did not receive the respect he deserves from Jamaicans. His last race of this season was the 100m at the London Diamond League, where he finished last by clocking 10.23s.

Following this race, he spoke about his year and the lack of respect he noticed from Jamaicans.

"My head is all over the place right now because what I wanted to do at Jamaican Trials I didn't get to do. I did want to run my final Olympics. I didn't get to but the journey continues same way. Definitely it would be my final Olympics," said Yohan Blake.

He added:

"You know as I said, my own country Jamaica doesn't give me the respect and I'm happy they don't because other people outside do and they appreciate me more than my own country."

He further said:

“Jamaica loves winners and once you don't win they are not supporting you but I don't need their support. I have my own support staff, my own support team."

Yohan Blake trained with compatriot Usain Bolt earlier, which helped him improve his skills. Bolt even nicknamed Blake "The Beast" because of Blake's ruthless training style.
