Lexi Rodriguez was the center of a major announcement this week. Following her emotional goodbye to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Rodriguez is turning pro. The Cornhuskers were earlier this week defeated in the semifinals of the NCAA Volleyball Championships 2024 by the Penn State Nittany Lions.

The Cornhuskers started the game on a positive note, with strong offensive plays in the first two sets, but Penn State bounced back strong in the third set, which eventually led to a surge and the Nittany Lions booked a spot in the finals after winning the game 25-23, 25-18, 23-25, 28-26, and 13-15.

After the game, Rodriguez broke down while speaking about her experience of playing with the team. While this took place a few days ago, Rodriguez is now turning pro and has signed with League One Volleyball's Omaha team. Nebraska Volleyball made this announcement on X (formerly Twitter) and added a sweet note in the post, which read:

"Take care of our girl, @lovboma.🥹 Lexi Rodriguez is staying in the Cornhusker state! She will debut her pro career with LOVB Omaha right here in NE."

Lexi Rodriguez pens a heartfelt farewell note to Nebraska Cornhuskers

While entering her final season last month, Lexi Rodriguez wrote an emotional, lengthy farewell note, reflecting on her time as a part of the Nebraska Cornhuskers family. She expressed her gratitude toward the team for the support and love she received. Nebraska Volleyball shared her note on Instagram. The post read:

"To all my teammates, coaches, staff, and all of husker nation, thank you for giving me so much love & support, you guys truly made this place feel like home! It has been a privilege to put on the Nebraska jersey these past 4 years and represent such a historical program. I am leaving this program a more confident & joyful Lexi Rodriguez, and I hope I was able to impact this place as much as it impacted me!"

Rodriguez added,

"There truly is no place like Nebraska, GBR❤️ "

After the semifinal against the Nittany Lions, Rodriguez shared a selfie on her Instagram story and wrote another short emotional note:

"Saying goodbye to a place that became home is not something that I could have been prepared for."

Despite the team's semifinals loss, Lexi Rodriguez and three other Nebraska Huskers members, namely middle blocker Andi Jackson, setter Bergen Reilly, and outside hitter Harper Murray, received All-American honors for their stellar performances this season.
