Alica Schmidt enjoyed a beautiful Sunday in South Africa a day after expressing discontent with her track session. The German is in her first training camp of the year as she prepares for a new challenge of 600m and 800m distances.
Schmidt shared glimpses from her girls' trip with training partners Veera Parela and Majtie Kolberg in a video on her Instagram story on January 19. The 800m running trio rested at the Boutique Hotel, enjoying the sunny day with delicious food.
"Sunday rest day ✨," she wrote
It was a rest day for the group after running grueling 800m sets, which Schmidt claimed had hurt her. While the Olympian expressed discontent with her running session, she said Parela and Kolberg made her mood better.
"Can't be in a bad mood with these girls 🥰✨," Schmidt wrote
The 26-year-old has run the 400m for the majority of her career but will focus on the 800m and the 600m in the 2025 season. She was part of the German 4x400m relay team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics but didn't get a chance to compete before making her debut at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Schmidt ran the second legs in the mixed and the women's 4x400m relays but finished seventh in both events.
"Really good" - Alica Schmidt on her first training camp of the season
Alica Schmidt concluded her last season with a lifetime best 600m at the ISTAF 2024 and after a two-month break, she started preparations for the upcoming season in early November. The 26-year-old did the first training camp of the season in Germany and was highly satisfied with the results.
"First training camp of the season is almost completed 🤝🏼☺️ it was a really good camp and made some good progression 📈 now I’m only 4 more days in South Africa - but I‘ll be back soon 🏃🏼♀️➡️🥰,"Schmidt wrote
Schmidt had earlier announced that she was attending a high-altitude training camp.
"I‘m on my way to my first high altitude training camp where I’ll join an international 800m group to train alongside great athletes where I can learn a lot," she wrote
With cold winter gripping Germany, Schmidt flew to South Africa for her second training camp as she looks to excel in the new challenge. She holds a personal best of 1:24.88s in the 800m and 2:05.22s in the 600m and would be eager to better them in the upcoming season.
