Simone Biles' coach Laurent Lendi has bid farewell to the gymnast's World Champions Centre (WCC) after serving seven years as its head coach. This comes just a few months after Landi's wife Cecile left the Centre for a coaching assignment at the University of Georgia.
The couple joined the Biles-owned gymnastics institution in 2017 and have been crucial to the American gymnast's career.
The World Champions Centre's Instagram handle shared a video of Landi's see-off event on Tuesday (December 10) in its stories. In the video, the 47-year-old was seen addressing the young aspiring gymnasts of the WCC in a black T-shirt and blue denim.
"Farewell to Laurent" it wrote in the caption.
"We will miss you Laurent" the story also remarked.
Before joining the WCC, Laurent Landi also served in Valeri Liukin's World Olympics Gymnastics Academy in Texas. The French coach has also led the US national team to successful campaigns such as the 2018 and 2019 World Gymnastics Championships, and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
In both world events, the US Women's team won the team events while Simone Biles clinched a combined nine gold medals (four in 2018 and five in 2019). The 2020 Olympic US team, however, failed to secure the first position in the team apparatus and had to settle for a silver medal. Biles clinched a silver and bronze medal during this tournament.
Simone Biles opens up about her partnership with Laurent Landi and Cecile Landi
Simone Biles shed light on her relationship with Laurent Landi and Cecile Landi a few days before the start of the 2024 Olympics.
In an interview with AP News, Biles shared that the duo helped her mature and enhance. She added that Landis has supported and helped her outside her gymnastics career, saying:
"They’ve been big mentors in like my adulthood (because) they got to see and harness the more mature Simone. They’ve helped me a lot not just in the gym but out of the gym, too.”
Cecile Landi maintained a cordial relationship with Simone Biles even after she departed from the WCC and attended Biles' documentary premiere last month.
