Alica Schmidt opened up about training for the 800m dash for the upcoming 2025 season. The German athlete wrapped up her 2024 season after competing at the Paris Olympics.

Schmidt's 2024 Summer Olympics did not pan out as expected, as she couldn't make it to the finals. However, she is currently gearing up for the upcoming track season and frequently shares updates about both indoor and outdoor training sessions on social media.

She announced her transition to this event after competing at the Paris Games. Months after this, she took to her Instagram story on January 12, sharing a video about her 800m training sessions and adding a caption where she made her feelings known about the same.

"These 800m tempo sessions hit different," wrote Schmidt.

The 26-year-old's Olympic dream was shattered as she couldn't win any medal in Paris. She first competed in the women's 4x100m relay, where she and her team ended up in seventh place, falling short of making it to the finals. She faced the same fate in the mixed 4x100m relay by finishing seventh in the event once again, leading to their disqualification from the finals.

In November 2024, Alica Schmidt made a major career change, shifting to the 800m dash from her patent 400m race. She took to her Instagram handle and shared a bunch of pictures that showcased her time at the Paris Olympics and added a heartfelt caption, announcing the major change.

"It's been quite a year. It was filled with so many highlights and I made some memories that will last forever: from the world relays in the Bahamas, where we qualified the mixed relay for the Olympics to the European championships in Rome, where we qualified the women’s 4x400m for Paris to the German nationals and of course: THE OLYMPICS," she wrote.

She added:

"After Paris I tried something new and ran a 800m & 600m and really enjoyed pushing out of my comfort zone. Back in 2022, I decided that I wanted to give the 800m a shot after the Paris Olympics, so now it means… I’m going for it next year. I‘m on my way to my first high altitude training camp where I’ll join an international 800m group to train alongside great athletes where I can learn a lot."

Alica Schmidt's personal best in the 800m is 2:05.22. Apart from her track ongoings, the German spent a stunning off-season by going on a four-week vacation with her friends.
