Alica Schmidt on balancing social media and her running career
For Alica Schmidt, her rise to fame in 2017 pushed the runner into the spotlight in the world of track and field. The popularity gave her an opportunity to earn more sponsors for her track career. Speaking to Olympics.com, she said,
"It's good for all us athletes to be active on social media in order to get sponsors. It's not easy, especially in Germany, to live from athletics. So a lot of athletes have to do another job to live from that and do the training. And yeah that's a great thing to do a social media on the side so you can get some more sponsors.”
Schmidt went on to add that it could be tricky to handle her fame and her sporting career, but her training was always her priority.
"Sometimes it's not that easy. The training is, of course, the main focus and all other things come behind that. But I also love to do some model jobs or take the people with me on social media. It's a big hobby of mine and I love to do that. But the main focus is sports.”
Outside of her Paris Olympics appearance, Alica Schmidt 2024 also saw her win the indoor 400m at the Belgrade Indoor Meeting. As the German moves forward into 2025, fans will no doubt be cheering for her on and away from the track.
