German track athlete Alica Schmidt shared glimpses of her training sessions in Potchefstroom, South Africa. The 26-year-old flew to the country just a few weeks ago for her first camp ahead of the 2025 season.
Schmidt started her preparations for the upcoming season in October. She has been involved in several training regimes since then as she prepares to compete over a new distance (400m to 800m) this year.
Alica Schmidt took to her Instagram handle to share a few clicks from the South Africa camp. In the posts, Schmidt can be seen in a white top and blue shorts, complementing it with orange spikes. She remarked in her story:

Alica Schmidt participated in two track events after her Paris Olympic campaign, finishing sixth over the 800m distance in Sondershausen and a third-place finish in the 600m race at the ISTAF Berlin 2024.

Alica Schmidt shared an emotional note as her teammate Christina Hering hung her boots during the ISTAF Berlin 2024. Hering participated in the 600m race and clinched the sixth position after clocking a run time of 1:26.17.
Following the conclusion of the event, Schmid took to her Instagram handle to share her good wishes for her best friend, Hering. Additionally, she thanked all the fans and supporters who had come to cheer from the stadium. She wrote:
"What an emotional day 🥺 Standing side my side with my bestie @runningfischi who had the last race of her career 🤍 We will miss you lots and I‘m so excited to see what the next chapter holds for you. Also I‘m super happy with my performance today, it was a new experience and was lots of fun ✨Thanks for all of you who came and supported us it means the world."
Christina Hering generally competed over the 800m distance for the majority of her career. She represented Germany in two quadrennial games in 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo. Hering also won the 800m final race during the German Championships last year in 2:02.70.
