Alica Schmidt showed off her newest Olympic ring tattoo on her lower right hip, a symbol to commemorate her Olympic journey in Paris. The German sprinter was part of relay squads at the 2020 and 2024 Summer Olympics.
Schmidt, 25, who began her track training at MTV Ingolstadt, made waves at the 2017 European Athletics U20 Championships as part of the 4x400m relay team. Her team finished second behind Ukraine and Schmidt's medal achievement was the first for an Ingolstadt athlete since 1999.
She competed in the 4x400m relay at the 2019 European Athletics U23 Championships and continued her momentum at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Since she traveled as an alternate of the mixed relay team, she couldn't participate in her debut Olympic appearance.
Cut to 2024, Schmidt secured her name in the same squad at the Paris Olympics but didn't earn a podium in the finals. Following the quadrennial event, the 25-year-old set off on a four-week-long vacation before sealing the memories of her Olympic journey with a tattoo.
The German offered a peek into her Olympic ring tattoo in her Instagram story. A Berlin-based artist worked on her lower hip area, while Schmidt lay sideways.
"I'm sooo happy. It turned out exactly how I wanted it. Thank you @ninostitches," Alica Schmidt captioned the story.
In the next story, she shared Nina's appreciation note for her, reading:
"for the incredible athlete & sweetest person @alicasmd. thank you for your trust"
Besides enjoying her vacation, Alica Schmidt also walked the 2024 Milan Fashion Week ramp for the famed brand, Boss. She joined the likes of tennis players Taylor Fritz and Matteo Berrettini.
Alica Schmidt shared some strategies ahead of the 2025 season
In an Instagram post from September 2024, Schmidt shared a clip from one of her sprinting events and some pointers to keep in mind before the 2025 season kicks off.
"2025 is in less than 4 months. Don’t let anybody waste your time. Be intentional about your time and who you spend it with. Get aligned with your goals and be brave enough to make new choices," the German wrote in her caption.
Schmidt joined St. Vincent sprinter Shafiqua Maloney and Kenyan athlete Mary Moraa in the 600m dash at the 2024 ISATF Berlin. She finished with bronze by clocking 1:24.88 and bid farewell to her best friend, Christina Hering, who competed for the last time before bidding goodbye to her track career.
