Alica Schmidt recently shared a glimpse of one of the special gifts she received for Christmas from one of her oldest friends. The German athlete is currently gearing up to compete in the upcoming track season.
Schmidt's 2024 season did not pan out as expected, as her Olympic dreams were shattered after she couldn't make it to the finals in any of her events. She first competed in the mixed 4x400m relay, where she and the German team finished in seventh place in heat 2 of the race, failing to make the final.
Then in the women's 4x100m relay, Schmidt and the Germany team again failed to advance to the final.
While she wasn't able to win a medal in Paris, the 26-year-old is now preparing for the 2025 season.
Schmidt is currently enjoying the holiday season and shared a video on her Instagram stories, which showcased a gift she received for Christmas from one of her friends. It was an abstract painting that also had her face drawn on it. The post's caption read:
"What I got for Christmas from one of my oldest friends," wrote Alica Schmidt.
Alica Schmidt reflected on her 2024 Paris Olympics campaign
Alica Schmidt had many ups and downs this year, and one of them was her Paris Olympics campaign, where things did not go as planned for her.
She wasn't able to make it to any of the event finals, but afterwards, she took to her Instagram and penned a note saying that she learned a lot from this campaign. Along with this, she realized that the Olympics are not just about medals but also about competing and added that she will never stop trying to keep on improving her skills.
"The Olympics are not just about winning medals. It‘s about being alongside inspiring athletes while competing at the highest level. Showing ambition, celebrating diversity, and people no matter who they are and where they are from."
She added:
"The past weeks were an emotional rollercoaster, and I was able to learn a lot. As an athlete I am still not where I want to be, and maybe I will never be. But the one thing that is for sure: I will never stop trying and figuring out ways to improve."
Alica Schmidt has begun her training for the 2025 season and frequently shares updates about her training sessions. Along with this, she also made an announcement about switching from the 400m to the 800m in the upcoming track year.
