Swimming has been an integral part of every modern Summer Olympics since its inception in 1896, and it continues to be a cornerstone at the Paris Olympics.

Team USA has been the most successful nation in the sport's Olympic history, amassing 580 medals from 1896 to 2020 and adding another 28 to their tally thus far at the Paris Olympics.

The Americans are dominating the swimming medal table at the Paris Olympics as well, with Torri Huske and Regan Smith leading the charge with five medals each. Meanwhile, Katie Ledecky has cemented her status as the most decorated female American Olympian and the fifth-most decorated Olympian overall, amassing 14 medals, including nine golds. Caeleb Dressel also contributed to the tally.

Remarkably, almost every swimmer on the American team has clinched multiple medals and many are competing for the honour of having won the most medals at this edition of the Olympics.

The Dolphins have racked up a whopping 18 medals so far at the Paris Olympics, only three behind its final tally from the 2020 Tokyo Games. With seven gold, eight silver, and three bronze medals, Australia sits second in the swimming medal tally of the Paris Olympics behind the USA.

The Americans currently hold a commanding lead atop the swimming medal table at the Paris Olympics, with a total of 28 medals. Their haul includes eight gold, 13 silver, and seven bronze medals, putting them a significant 10 medals ahead of their closest rivals.

Despite their impressive performance in Paris, the Australian swimmers still have a long way to go before they can match the American swimmers' lightning-fast legs.
