The Paris Olympics men's 400m semifinals are done with, and eight sprinters will now line up on the tracks of Stade De France for the finals. In the absence of reigning Olympic gold medalist Steve Gardiner, the field is open for a new champion to be crowned. At this point, the race is anyone's for the taking.

Getting things off to an enthralling start in Semifinal 1 was America's Quincy Hall. The 2023 World Championships bronze medalist had an easy start, then accelerated hard in the first curve to put distance between himself and Jereem Richards.

Up until then, Alexander Doom had also been in contention for the top two. However, the Belgian slowed down and stopped before the last 200m, leaving the spots open for Hall and Richard, with the latter clocking a 43.95 to top the race.

In Semifinal 2 of the men's 400m at the Paris Olympics, it was Kirani James and Muzala Samukonga who stole the show. James, now 31, has medaled consecutively at the last three Games and will be looking to claim a fourth soon.

The Grenadian led most of the race with a comfortable distance, but Samukonga made him work for the win in the last 100m. In the end, it was the 2012 gold medalist who topped the race with a 43.78, while the Zambian set a national record of 43.81 to book a berth in the finals.

The third and last semifinal of the men's 400m was the only one where no one breached the 44-second mark. Britain's Matthew Hudson-Smith, a favorite to go for gold, was the most dominant sprinter on the track, and eased up before the finish line to clock a 44.07. Meanwhile, after a late resurgence, America's Michael Norman made the top two with a 44.26.
