The women's 200m semifinals at the Paris Olympics saw three enthralling races, where 24 sprinters battled it out to book a berth in the final eight. The action included multiple World and Olympic medalists, and they gave the fans a show of a lifetime.

Getting the semifinals off to an electric start was newly minted 100m Olympic champion Julien Alfred. A couple of days ago, the Saint Lucian became the first athlete from her country to win an Olympic medal of any kind. She stormed to the top of the podium ahead of America's Sha’Carri Richardson, who was a favorite for the event.

Today, Alfred continued in a similar mood, getting an explosive start out of the blocks. The sprinter eased up before the finish line and still topped Semifinals 1 with ease in a time of 21.98.

Behind the 100m Olympic Champion, Nigeria's Favour Ofili delivered a standout performance, clocking a season-best 22.05s to ensure qualification in the finals of her debut Games.

Meanwhile, Gabby Thomas took to the track for Semifinal 2 and blew the rest away. During the curve, the American faced some competition from former 200m World Champion Dina Asher-Smith, but quickly opened up the gap afterward.

Ultimately, Thomas topped her half with 21.86s: the fastest time of the day. Behind her, Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith secured her finals appearance with a time of 22.31s.

Brittany Brown and Darryl Nieta were the showstoppers of Semifinal 3. The duo were shoulder to shoulder when they exited the curve before Brown managed to pull through in the last few meters. The American topped the race with 22.12s, while Neita came in second with 22.24s.

Rounding out the top eight at the women's 200m finals at the Paris Olympics will be McKenzie Long and Jessika Gbai. Both qualified as seventh and eighth fastest, coming in behind the six sprinters who won their respective heats. Long raced in Semifinal 1 where she finished in 22.30s, while Gbai was in action in Semifinal 3 where she ran a personal best of 22.36s.
