The preliminary round of the women's 400m hurdles at the Paris Olympics saw some impressive races, with a total of 18 athletes booking their places in the semifinals with ease. Amid all the action at Stade De France, it was Femke Bol emerged as the fastest runner of the day in this event.

Bol has already had a winning start to her time at the Games, storming to her maiden Olympic gold medal when she won the mixed 4x400m relay alongside the Dutch team. The reigning 400m indoor world record holder was racing in Heat 3 on Sunday, August 4, and looked effortless in her 53.38s run.

Behind her, Jamaica’s Salmon Shiann and Zeney Geldenhuys also qualified for the semis via Heat 3, finishing second and third with times of 53.95 and 54.73 respectively.

The second fastest woman in the heats of the 400m hurdles at the Paris Olympics was America's Jasmine Jones, who recorded an impressive 53.60s in Heat 2 to ensure an appearance in the semis. Outside of Jones, Heat 2 saw Rogail Joseph and Savannah Sutherland qualify, with the former clocking a personal best of 54.56s.

Elsewhere, reigning Olympic champion and world record holder, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone stopped the clock at 53.60(.595)s making her the third fastest woman of the day in the 400m at the Paris Olympics. This marks the first time McLaughlin-Levrone has competed internationally in nearly two years, but the American was far from rusty.
