Noah Lyles' girlfriend recently spoke about Jamaica's reaction to the American athlete's win in the 100m dash at the Paris Olympics. Lyles ended his Paris Olympics campaign by winning two medals.
Lyles dominated the 100m dash at the 2024 Summer Games, where he clocked a time of 9.79s, trouncing his on-field arch rivals, Jamaican athlete Kishane Thompson and Fred Kerley, who recorded 9.79s and 9.81s, claiming second and third place, respectively.
Along with this, he also competed in the 200m dash, where he finished in third place, clocking a time of 19.70s. He was bested by Letsile Tebogo and Kenny Bednarek, who posted 19.46s and 19.62s, securing first and second place, respectively.
Days after the American's Paris Olympics exploits, the athlete's girlfriend, Junelle Bromfield, appeared on Simone Clark's podcast, 'Sim Soul Sessions,' where she opened up about observing the reaction of the Jamaicans after Lyles won the 100m dash.
She highlighted the fact that no Jamaican athlete has won the 100m finals in the Olympics or the World Championships since Usain Bolt. However, she noticed how the fans were focused on hating Lyles rather than praising silver medalist Kishane Thompson.
"A Jamaican man has gotten a medal at the Olympic, world championship since Bolt," said Junelle Bromfield. "Oblique is the first man to make the finals, I believe in 2022 onwards and if he's not healthy and he doesn't get a medal problem, Kishane came along and I watched a small clip, Kishane got a silver medal at the biggest biggest stage in any athletes career, the Olympics and I saw that video and nobody was cheering." "Everybody was at shock and they were on the internet and Noah is my boyfriend, but all I saw was Noah shouldn't get that medal, Noah shouldn't have got that medal and I wasn't seeing no congratulations, they were just fighting the results and showing blames instead of appreciating the first medal they've gotten since Bolt," she added. Noah Lyles shared a heartfelt message for girlfriend Junelle Bromfield for facing online abuse
In the aforementioned interview, Junelle Bromfield received a message from his boyfriend Noah Lyles through a video clip, where he addressed the hate she faced during the Paris Olympics. He appreciated her strength and tenacity to handle all the trials and tribulations. He exuded pride in her and said,
"I'm just here to probably vocalize some of the ways that I feel that you've shown your resilience and shown your strength and it's hard at times I know, but you know, you're a game changer you might not want to be, that's what you are."
Lyles also spoke about Bromfield inspiring the next generation.
"Now everything that God has put in your life, has been one step forward to moving, to inspiring the next generation, and I know it's uncomfortable, but he prepared you for this moment, and I've seen the way that you fought through," he stated.
Lyles now has a total of three Olympics, of which one is gold and the other two are bronze.
