Allyson Felix has bid farewell to 2024 by sharing the highlights of her year including her time at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where the former sprinter set up a nursery in the Olympic Village for athletes who have children. She also welcomed her second child during the year.
Felix took to Instagram and shared the highlights of her year in a video to the viral song "End of Beginning". The seven-time Olympic champion celebrated her numerous victories including the healthy birth of her second child Kenneth Maurice Ferguson III, whom she welcomed in April.
"2024 was a ride! 🚀 Drop one thing you’re proud of this year, and let’s take space to celebrate our wins 🫶🏾," she captioned the post.
Felix had to undergo a life-threatening delivery of her first child in 2018 and was grateful to welcome her second child in good health. She is married to former American runner Kenneth Ferguson, having tied the knot the same year they welcomed their first child.
The 39-year-old launched a nursery in the Olympic Village at the 2024 Paris Olympics for athletes competing with young children, especially mothers. Felix said she felt alone as a mom at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and while she has retired now, she wanted to do something for other athletes.
“It’s a place in the heart of the action, where athlete parents can spend time with their babies and young children: to bond, nurse, play, and just experience a level of recognition and respect from the athletic community that has been so lacking in the past," she said [via Olympics.com].
Felix also made waves in her entrepreneurship journey in 2024 and launched Always Alpha, a women-focused athlete management company. The 14-time world champion earlier launched a footwear wear company, Saysh, in 2021 following her dramatic split with Nike and was beaming with pride when the brand's first TV commercial was displayed at the U.S. Olympic Trials.
"My 18-year-old self never could have imagined" - Allyson Felix on Saysh's appearance on TV at the U.S. Olympic Trials
Allyson Felix split with Nike in 2018 following the public dispute over the brand's maternal policies. Starting her advocacy for women athletes in the sport, the Olympic champion launched her own footwear brand, Saysh, in 2021. While the brand hasn't signed any big sprinters yet, it achieved a milestone breakthrough at the 2024 U.S. Olympics with the launch of its TV commercial featuring the Olympian.
Felix was proud of the achievement and reiterated her commitment to the betterment of female athletes in the sport.
"A huge moment! From competing at the Olympic Trials to having @bysaysh tv debut during the coverage. My 18 year old self never could have imagined after first stepping foot on this stage that I’d be here. I’m working towards a legacy that empowers women to pursue their dreams relentlessly in the face of all adversity," Allyson Felix wrote.
Felix was named in BBC's 100 Women list for 2024 in December after earlier being featured in ESPN's Top 100 Athletes of the 21st Century.
