Allyson Felix's mother Marlean once opened up about their support for their daughter's career
Since Felix was young, her mother attended all her track meets and even did lesson planning and homework while she practiced. Talking about how the family supported the Olympian to Mom.com in 2021, Marlean said:
"We attended not only all of her track meets but most of her practices as well. As an elementary school teacher, I would often balance my responsibilities of lesson planning and paperwork at her track practice. My husband would also often bring work to complete at her practices. When Allyson became a professional athlete competing at international meets, we found ourselves traveling around the world with her."
Furthermore, Marlean also backed the former Olympian's decision to speak up against her sponsor Nike's maternity policies as they reportedly wanted to pay her 70% less than the contractual fee during her pregnancy. Felix went on to pen an op-ed for The New York Times before switching sponsors and signing with Athleta.
Allyson Felix had a complicated childbirth birth experience in 2018, delivering her daughter Camryn in an emergency C-section. Shedding light on the ordeal, Felix's mother Marlean lauded her daughter for the bold step and expressed contentment with her decision:
"I’m convinced that once Allyson made the decision to speak out, she was committed to it and willing to trust the Lord regarding her future. The process, while frightening, led to our son (her agent) helping to secure a wonderful contract for her with Athleta...Although Allyson still deals with some backlash from her outspokenness, she knows that what she did was right and she has never regretted it. We fully support her efforts." (via Mom.com)
