Allyson Felix is the most decorated track and field athlete of all time, having won 11 Olympic and 20 World Championships medals. The American retired from sprinting in 2022 but has continued to stay active and recently gave her honest opinion about early morning gym sessions.
Felix won her first major international medal at just 18 years old, clinching silver in the 200m at the 2004 Olympics. The very next year, she became the youngest world champion ever in the 200 meters, winning gold at the 2005 Helsinki World Championships. She successfully defended this title at the next two World Championships, winning gold in 2007 and 2009. In 2015, she was crowned World Champion in the 400m. Allyson Felix won her sole individual Olympic gold medal at the 2012 Games in the 200m sprint.
Now, a little over two years after her retirement, Felix still works hard at the gym. Taking to her Instagram story on Tuesday (January 7), the sprinter shared a snap of a gym with a time sticker that read ‘5:59 am’ and captioned the photo,
“The struggle is real.”
Allyson Felix on her relationship with the track after retirement
Outside of the track, Allyson Felix is the mother of two kids that she shares with her husband Kenneth Ferguson. She welcomed her daughter, Camryn, in 2018, and her son, Kenneth Maurice Ferguson III, in 2024.
Recently, Felix took to Instagram to open up about her relationship with the track after her retirement, writing,
“This track still feels like home. There's something I love about an empty lane-the quiet, the freedom, the chance to move just for the love of it. Postpartum, there have been times I've felt far from like myself. It's been a practice in patience, in giving myself grace, in finding my way back to feeling strong-inside and out.”
“I’ve also been intentional about holding gratitude for this body of mine-one that brought life into the world and continues to carry me forward. Whatever it is that makes you come alive, hold on to it. Let it evolve with you. There's power in finding your joy, no matter what the chapter looks like,” she added.
Since retiring from track and field, Allyson Felix has been busy building her own shoe brand Saysh. She has also used her platform to advocate for maternal health, even speaking to Congress about the issue.
