Femke Bol is back to her winning ways in the 400m hurdles after she settled for a bronze in the event at the Paris Olympics. Competing at the Lausanne Diamond League the Dutch stormed ahead of her competitors to take the win in a meet record of 52.25s.
For Bol, this win is redemption after the 2024 Games, where she finished third to Americans Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Anna Cockrell. While McLaughlin-Levrone was a pre-race favorite for the win, it was Bol who was the strongest contender for silver. However, a late-stage surge by Cockrell left the 24-year-old stunned, and she took home her second-consecutive Olympic bronze in the event.
However, the Dutchwoman hasn't let the disappointments from Stade De France follow her around for too long, and she's already back to her winning ways. Competing at the Lausanne Diamond League, her first competition since Paris, Bol took the win in 52.25s, outdoing second-place finisher Rushell Clayton by a little more than a second.
Reacting to her race on Instagram, Femke Bol heaped praise on the atmosphere of the meet, writing,
“Always an amaaaazing atmosphere.”
After the race, in an interaction with the media, Bol also stated she was happy with her fitness saying,
“I’m still in great shape, with no injuries or sickness, which is really positive. The race today was super with a MR.
For the World Champion, this marks her third consecutive Lausanne Diamond League win. It also marks the third straight time that she has reset the meet record for the event.
Overall, this is Bol’s third DL win of the season. She finished first in Rome and Oslo, setting meet records in both races and putting her on track to claim her third Diamond League Finals win.
Femke Bol reminisces on her Paris Olympics mixed 4x400m relay gold at the Lausanne Diamond League
While Femke Bol’s Olympic campaign in the 400m hurdles only yielded a bronze, she was able to claim her maiden gold at the event in the mixed 4x400m relay. Her performance in the finals was truly spectacular, as she came from fourth in the final leg to give the Netherlands a victory for the ages.
Reminiscing on this win at the Lausanne Diamond League, Bol said,
“The 4x400 mixed relay at the Games was all about going for a medal. When I got the baton and saw where the others were, I knew it was doable. I pushed hard in the last two hundred meters, and the energy from the crowd and my teammates was incredible. It was an emotional experience, especially after such a challenging season, and celebrating together with everyone made it even more special.”
With her outing at the 2024 Games, Femke Bol is now a four-time Olympic medalist. The second-fastest woman in the history of the 400m hurdles, the Dutchwoman is only looking to get better from here, and fans will be cheering her on as she aims to add more metal to her already impressive collection.
