Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone shared her plans after retirement in her book Far Beyond Gold, released on January 30, 2024. She said her husband was looking to complete his seminary studies and that the couple would then move back to the East Coast where Andre Levrone would take up pastorship and she would mentor children.
McLaughlin-Levrone and Andre Levrone met through a mutual friend and started dating after remaining friends for a while. They got engaged in 2021 and tied the knot in 2022.
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, the 24-year-old clinched the gold medal in the 400m hurdles and broke the world record in the process. Her husband, present in the audience, cheered on McLaughlin-Levrone as she made waves on the track.
In her book, Far Beyond Gold, the four-time Olympic gold medalist shared plans for the future after her retirement. She said that once her husband finishes his seminary studies at The Master's Seminary and she hangs up her boots, Andre would take up pastorship and preach the bible while McLaughlin-Levrone would mentor children with the lessons and wisdom she accumulated over the years.
"When Andre finishes seminary and my time training with Bobby comes to a close, we want to move east, to the coast we are from. Andre wants to be a pastor and care for all people, regardless of their skin color, age, or wealth. He wants to preach the Bible week after week, tell people about Jesus, and then help them honor God each and every day."
She added:
"And when my career is over, I want to mentor children. Share some of the lessons and wisdom I have accumulated over the years. Help them avoid some of the same mistakes I made."
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone spoke about how she contemplated trusting Andre Levrone because of her past relationship
In her book Far Beyond Gold: Running from Fear to Faith, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone recalled the traumas from her past relationship and how trusting Andre was difficult in the beginning since he had no evident red flags. She wrote that his devotion to honoring God also captured the Olympian's heart.
"Less than a year earlier, my heart had been torn to pieces. I was terrified of that happening again. I couldn’t see any red flags in Andre, but I couldn’t help but wonder if they were there, lurking in the shadows. I hadn’t yet been in a relationship with a man who lived a life devoted to honoring God. I didn’t yet realize that was why I could trust Andre."
McLaughlin-Levrone signed as a Racer in the Grand Slam Track League which will kick off in April 2025.
