Anna Hall is continuing her preparations for the 2025 indoor season and has shared a positive update about her hurdles training. The American heptathlete didn't win any medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Hall shared a glimpse of her hurdles practice in an Instagram story on Wednesday (Jan. 1) and was seen making strong block starts while only crossing the first hurdle. The 23-year-old competes over both 60m and 100m hurdles and while it's not her best of the heptathlon events, she is making strong efforts to get better in the event, as evidenced by her intense practice sessions.
Hall missed the entirety of the 2024 indoor season after suffering a knee injury including a PCL and bone bruise while training on the long jump board at the start of the season last year and underwent a “minor procedure” at the Steadman Clinic in Vail afterward. However, she only returned to competition during the start of the outdoor season in April.
While the 23-year-old was still not at her best in the following months, she managed to win the heptathlon event at the U.S. Olympic Trials, qualifying for her maiden Olympic Games. She finished in the top 3 in the 800m, javelin thrown and long jump events at the Paris Olympics, and placed fifth overall.
The world medalist is now expected to kick off her indoor season at the Razorback Invitational in the latter part of January and will look to better her lifetime best of 8.04s over the 60m hurdles.
"I was heartbroken about that part" - Anna Hall on failing to medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics
Just like at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials, Anna Hall was one of the favorites to make the Olympic team when she attempted to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics four years ago. However, she broke her navicular bone at the 2021 trials, and while the 23-year-old easily made the team for the Paris Olympics, she still had to face a heartbreaking end to her season after failing to win a medal.
"I mean that was our expectation (winning the gold medal) and I'm proud of the way I competed, disappointed with the situation. But those are the cards I was dealt. I was heartbroken about that part, but I know I did the best I could. I’m kind of torn between my own disappointment at not meeting my own expectations, but being proud of the year that we had and the work that we put in," Anna Hall told Athletics Weekly after the Games.
Hall turned professional with Adidas in 2022 a month after winning her first major international medal, a bronze, at the World Championships in Eugene, USA. She broke the North American pentathlon indoor record in the following year and later won the silver medal at the 2023 World Outdoor Championships.
