Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone had a successful 2024 season, and one of the instances of this was her breaking the world record during the US Olympic trials, she then credited her faith for the accomplishment. The 25-year-old recently concluded her Paris Olympics campaign with two gold medals.
McLaughlin-Levrone earned her first 2024 Summer Games gold medal in the 400m hurdles event, where she clocked a world record of 50.37s, trouncing Anna Cockrell and Femke Bol, who claimed second and third place, respectively.
Following this, she earned her second gold medal in the 4x400m relay event, where she and her team, which included Gabby Thomas, Shamier Little, and Alexis Holmes, clocked an American record of 3:15.27.
They defeated the Netherlands and Great Britain, who secured second and third place, respectively. However, the 400m hurdles wasn't the only time McLaughlin-Levrone broke the world record in 2024; she also did the same during the US Olympic trials in July.
She clocked a record of 50.65s during the trials to qualify for the Paris Olympics, and after setting this record, the American hurdler credited the win to her faith and belief. (As quoted by JerseyCatholic.org)
"He can do anything. Anything is possible in Christ," said Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone shared a heartfelt message after her Paris Olympics success
After wrapping her 2024 Summer Games campaign with two gold medals, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone shared a bunch of pictures on her Instagram, which carried some moments from the Paris Olympics, some moments from her training sessions, and some moments with her close ones, who supported her during the journey. She penned a note in the caption of the post, in which she expressed gratitude and displayed the hard work she had done to reach this point of success.
"This post is dedicated to my team. My people. The people who stood with me through it all. All the sweat, blood, tears. The days that almost killed me, And the ones I killed. Every detail. Everyone did their part. Executed their role. Not one variable overlooked. That’s what it takes to get here. That’s what it will take to stay here. Literally could not do it without them. It takes a village. I love you all! We did it. ❤️ To all those not pictured, we love you!" wrote Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is the first woman ever to win consecutive gold in the 400m hurdles event at the Olympics and is also the first American to defend her title in an individual track event since Michael Johnson's consecutive win in the 400m event at the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games.
