The Swimming World Cup 2024 got underway on Friday (Oct 13) in Shanghai. The first day of the event saw numerous Olympic medalists engaging in close contests.
Four-time Olympic gold medalist Leon Marchand won the 100m medley event after beating Switzerland's Noe Ponti by a margin of just 0.01 seconds.
Kate Douglass who clinched four medals at the 2024 Olympics for the USA also shined in Shanghai and won the 200m breaststroke event in 2:15.96s. The 22-year-old produced another title-winning performance in the 100m medley event.
USA's Regan Smith displayed an impressive performance on the first day of the Swimming World Cup, clinching two podium finishes. She won the 200m butterfly event in 2:01.85s and finished just behind Australia's Kaylee Mckeown in the 50m backstroke event.
