The men’s 400m hurdles semifinals saw some of the greatest hurdlers battle against each other in the fight for the eight coveted slots in the final. Competing at the sold-out Stade de France, the athletes produced three nail-biting races in the semifinals.
The first semifinal featured defending champion Karsten Warholm going up against Tokyo bronze medallist Alison Dos Santos. Warlholm was no fluke as he claimed the win in great fashion, clocking a stunning 47.67 seconds to cross the finish line ahead of Clement Ducos.
Dos Santos finished third, stopping the clock at 47.95 to get a spot in the final as one of the fastest losers.
Semifinal two saw Kyron McMaster, a pre-race favorite, go up against America’s CJ Allen, who failed to impress and crossed the finish line in fourth place. McMaster was flawless as he took the top honors in 48.15 ahead of Rasmus Magi.
The third semifinal pitted Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Rai Benjamin against formidable opponents, but he proved unstoppable with a clear win. He clocked a stunning 47.85, ahead of Roshawn Clarke who finished second in 48.34.
