Monday night of the U.S Swimming Olympic Trials saw 14-year-old Audrey Derivaux shock audiences as she made her way to the women's 400m individual medley final. The teenager clocked a 4:45.23 to top her heat, a time which held up long enough for her to make it to the top eight.

Going into her heat, Derivaux held a personal best time of 4:49.32 in the event, making her far from a favorite to finish near the top. However, in an incredible performance, the Jersey Wahoos swimmer dropped four seconds from her previous record to top her heat and move up to seventh in the all-time list for her age group.

Most of Audrey Derivaux’s improvement came in the first leg, where she shaved three seconds off of her split for her previous PB. Reacting to this stunning performance by the youngster, fans on X were left amazed. One user compared the 14-year-old to swimming legends Katie Ledecky and Katie Grimes, writing,

“Unbelievable poise. It's one thing to swim so well at such a young age, it's another to do so on such a huge platform. But to do it in the 400 IM is otherworldly. Keep your eye on Audrey Derivaux. This is giving Katie Ledecky and Katie Grimes vibes. Remarkable.”

Another fan agreed that the swimmer has a bright future, writing,

“ATTA GIRL!! 💪💪 Toughest event in swimming, and she SMASHED it! Girl has a big future in the pool 💥.”

After her incredible performance in the women's 400m IM heat, Audrey Derivaux was back in the water in less than half an hour for her 100m backstroke heat. She finished third here with a time of 1:02.02, which wasn't enough to get her a ticket to the semifinals.

However, her outing at the U.S Swimming Olympic Trials isn't done just yet. The 14-year-old is scheduled for three more races- the 200m butterfly, 200m backstroke, and the 200m individual medley.

The heats for the women's 200m butterfly take place in the morning session on Wednesday, June 19. The 200m backstroke heats will be held early the next day, with the 200m individual medley heats scheduled for Friday morning.

Audrey Derivaux's strongest event is the 200m butterfly, and fans will be eager to see what times the youngster clocks tomorrow.
