"Avengers Assemble"; "Best team in the world" - Fans react to USA Men's National Basketball team for Paris Olympics 2024

The USA Men's National Basketball team has been announced for the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024, scheduled from July 26 to August 10, 2024. The preliminary games will be held at Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille and the final stage will be hosted by Accor Arena in Paris.

Three-time Olympic gold medalist Kevin Durant and NBA’s all-time high scorer, LeBron James, headline the USA Men's National Basketball team for the Summer Games 2024.

In addition to Durant and James, Stephen Curry, Joel Embiid, Devin Booker, Jayson Tatum, Anthony Davis, Tyrese Haliburton, Anthony Edwards, Jrue Holiday, Bam Adebayo, and Kawhi Leonard, make up the 12-member USA squad for the Olympic Games.

Notably, USA have been the most dominant side in the competition’s history, winning 19 medals, including 16 gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.

USA Basketball, the national governing body for the sport, shared an image of the USA Men's National Basketball team on their X (formerly Twitter) handle, captioning it as:

“Greatness Unites. The 2024 USA Men's National Team is here.”

The basketball fans on the platform instantly came up with their tweets as they showed their excitement for the USA’s Paris Olympics roster. One of the fans used the iconic catchphrase of the Marvel Comics superhero squad, called the Avengers, to draw a parallel with the USA’s current basketball team. They wrote:

“Avengers Assemble.”

Another fan mentioned that the USA’s squad was the best in the world.

“Best team in the world,” they said.

Meanwhile, one of the users stated that it would be difficult to stop this team, suggesting the team’s ability to defeat any other team.

“what’s stopping this team from swooping anyone against them”, they said.

USA Men's National Basketball team’s draw for the Paris Olympics 2024

The U.S. Men’s Basketball team has been drawn in Group C of the Paris Olympics 2024, along with Serbia and South Sudan. The fourth team of Group C will be announced after the Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) in Puerto Rico, from July 2 to 7, 2024.

The USA will first play Serbia on July 28. Next they face South Sudan on July 31 and finally they will be up against the OQT winner on August 3 during the first round of the Paris Olympics.

The quarter-finals and semi-finals for the tournament are slated for August 6 and 8, respectively, while the gold-medal and bronze-medal playoffs will be held on August 10, 2024.
