Simone Biles left fans in awe of her gymnastics skills as she showcased the Yurchenko double pike during the podium training for the Paris Olympics. The four-time Olympic champion is preparing for her third Summer Games appearance at the French capital.
Biles began her 2024 season on an incredible note after a dominant victory at the Core Hydration Classic, followed by the US Championships and the Olympic Trials. She qualified for her third consecutive Olympics after clinching the top spot in the finals of the Trials held at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
Upon reaching the French capital, Biles participated in the podium training on Thursday. An inside video of her executing the signature Yurchenko double pike vault (two flips in the air before the pike) was shared by USA Gymnastics on their X handle (formerly Twitter). She can be seen performing the difficult vault routine with ease and got a high-five from her coach, Laurent Landi, at the end.
"UNREAL," USA Gymnastics captioned the post.
The clip caught the attention of fans online as they applauded Biles for her exceptional skills. One fan wrote that her vault routine deserved a gold medal:
"Asking for a one-time rule change: awarding a gold medal for THIS. Beyond hard and perfect. Like hitting a grand slam in BP (which I know, I know… but that is how insane this is). Podium training. Yurchenko double pike sky high and stuck. do not try at home."
Another fan was amazed by Biles' skills as they wrote:
"CAN 'SIMONE BILES' FLY 'TOO...' SHE IS 'INCREDIBLE' TO WATCH. SHE IS REMARKABLY 'TALENTED' IN HER 'PROFESSION...!"
Here are a few more reactions from fans online:
"I was still half asleep while watching podium training today but this woke me up real quick. Queen!!!" a fan wrote.
"Most mind blowing piece of gymnastics that I’ve ever seen," another fan wrote.
"Air Simone" a fan commented.
Simone Biles talked about her role on the team for the Paris Olympics
Simone Biles is the most decorated gymnast of all time, both male and female. She achieved the feat last year after winning the sixth all-around title of her career at the 2023 World Championships. With her victory at the Worlds, Biles took her world championship and Olympic medal tally to 37 medals, making her the only gymnast to reach this remarkable achievement.
The 27-year-old athlete spoke about using this experience to help guide her fellow gymnasts at the Paris Olympics.
"I know exactly how they are feeling. If I can be a mentor and a guide, that's what I am going to do to kind of lighten the load," Biles said during an interview with Inc.
Biles also aims to redeem herself from the disappointment at the Tokyo Olympics, where she had to pull out of multiple events due to twisties.
