Two-time Olympic gold medalist Yohan Blake recently hinted at his major comeback to the track ahead of the 2025 track and field season. This comes just a few months after he failed to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics at the Jamaican trials.
During the Jamaican Championships (Jamaican trials), Blake finished fifth in the first heats of the 100m event with a run time of 10.21 seconds. This performance led to his early elimination from the Championships and also nullified his chances of making it to the fourth consecutive Olympic Games of his career.
Owing to this performance, Yohan Blake had to face numerous backlashes from his Jamaican countrymates. However, amidst these on-track struggles and hateful comments, the 34-year-old is set to make another comeback to the track.
Blake took to his official X handle to share a message stating that he is 'focused' on getting back on track. He wrote:
"The journey continues. Focused, determined, and back where I belong. Stay tuned for what’s next. With God, all things are possible."
The 2024 track season hasn't been very fruitful for Blake mainly due to the numerous injuries he had to nourish throughout the season. He last competed in July at the London Diamond League where he finished eighth in the 100m event after clocking a run time of 10.23 seconds.
Yohan Blake opens up about receiving the Keys to the Region honor
34-year-old Jamaican track and field athlete Yohan Blake was recently facilitated with the honorary "Keys to the Region" recognition for his services to Jamaica in the field of athletics and for his contributions outside the track. This came just a week ago on 8 October when he was in the opening ceremony of his restaurant, Butcher's Barrel.
Speaking during the felicitation ceremony, Blake opened up about the struggles and hard work he has put in the last two decades of his life to reach the level he is in his career. He said, via Sportsmax:
"This brings tears to my eyes to recognize this moment. I have worked 20-odd years tirelessly, creating so much history around the world being one of the fastest men in the 100 and 200 plus the 4x100m, it is not an easy feat. "
Yohan Blake's heroics for Jamaica on the global stage include winning two World Championship gold medals in 2011. The 34-year-old has also secured two individual Olympic silver medals (both in the 2012 London Olympics) in his career and was part of two gold medal-winning Jamaican relay teams in 2012 and 2016 respectively.
