"Being able to have a safe place to decompress" - Sha'Carri Richardson on deciding to opt for therapy

Sha'Carri Richardson recently shared her personal perspective on the importance of therapy, describing it as a vital space for mental and emotional well-being. After missing out on the 2020 Tokyo Games, Richardson made her debut appearance for the Olympics at the Paris edition.

Richardson previously earned a spot to compete in the 100m event at the 2020 Olympics but was later handed a doping ban, leading to the 24-year-old missing the Games. A week before the race, her biological mother passed away, the news she received while speaking to a journalist following the race.

The suspension also prevented her from competing at the 2022 World Athletics Championships, which were held in Eugene, Oregon. However, the Olympic champion bounced back stronger securing victories in several events, including the 2023 USATF Outdoor Championships, 2023 WAC's, and 2024 Paris Games.

During a recent photo shoot for Essence magazine, Richardson opened up on how therapy played a crucial role in helping her navigate and overcome the challenging, dark period of her career.

"I feel like therapy came from knowing that I needed it, and also being able to have a safe place to decompress—when I don’t have to worry about the world, or being an athlete, or being a friend, or being a daughter or anything. I could go into therapy and just be me."

Christian Coleman was recently seen admiring Sha'Carri Richardson's first photo shoot for Essence magazine.

At the recently held USATF Night of Legends to present the 2024 USATF Wing Awards and Athlete of the Year Awards, they both made an appearance together, stirring up social media.

While Coleman shared a picture of their hands intertwined, displaying Richardson's signature nails, the Paris Olympic 100m silver medalist shared a selfie of the duo from the eventful night.

Richardson was seen dazzling in multiple outfits for her first photo shoot with Essence magazine. Sharing a glimpse of the photoshoot on his Instagram story, Coleman wrote:

"Ohh wow okay."
