Simone Biles recently spoke about her childhood in foster care before being adopted by Ronald and Nellie Biles. The Olympic gold medalist revealed the intricacies of early life that had an impact on her growing up.
Biles achieved great heights in gymnastics in a short period and in the process became the most decorated gymnast. Even though her pursuits on the gymnastics mat are well known, a lot about her personal life and her struggles while growing up are still under wraps.
Biles opened up about a lot of untold stories from her early life in her appearance on the "Call Her Daddy Podcast" by Alex Cooper. The American gymnast was put into foster care along with her siblings as her biological mother struggled with alcohol and drug abuse.
"So the only thing that I remember was just being anxious when we would go to sleep because my brother was in the room next door and I think we were just always used to sleeping together or close or whatever because he's not that much older," said Simone Biles.
"And so I just had anxiety problems. So I we were in a girls room, they had girls rooms and boys rooms. And from my knowledge that sometimes during the night or during the day, they would take kids out and replace them into a different home. So I was just so terrified that if I woke up, my brother wouldn't be there, even though I was with my sister. So I'd always sneak in and go sleep with him because I'm like, oh, this is my brother, you know, because I didn't understand the separation," she added.
Simone Biles' parents
Simone Biles was adopted by her grandparents Ronald Biles and Nellie Biles from foster care when she was six years old along with her sister Adria. They moved to Houston, Texas, where her career took shape as a young gymnast.
Biles credited her parents for her success several times in interviews and social media posts. In the recent podcast "Call Her Daddy Podcast" by Alex Cooper she opened up on the support that she received from them as a gymnast.
"They've never really missed a competition, anything besides 2020 Olympics, 2021, whatever we want to call it.That's the only thing they missed because they weren't allowed to go because of COVID.But other than that, they've supported everything that I have ever wanted to do, all of that stuff since I was a young girl," she said.
Moreover, it was due to their support and encouragement, Simone Biles was able to overcome a major setback at the Tokyo Olympics.
