The Paris Olympics 2024 have officially commenced with the closing of the opening ceremony on the Seine River. While Team USA was one of the final nations to enter the parade, their contingent and accompanying boat were undeniably the largest, leaving spectators in awe of the nation's strength at the quadrennial Games.
The opening ceremony commenced with a burst of French flag colors at the parade's starting point. Adhering to tradition, Greece led the procession, followed by the Refugee Olympic Team. As host of the subsequent Summer Olympics, Team USA made a grand entrance as the penultimate nation to navigate the Seine River.
The USA was led by NBA icon LeBron James and tennis ace Coco Gauff as the male and female flag bearers, respectively. The country is being represented by a staggering number of 592 athletes who were assigned a ‘massive boat’ for the parade.
Fans online were left in awe of the nation's strength, with one of them writing:
"Hell yeah. Biggest boat. Biggest Navy. Bigger Stronger Faster. USA USA USA."
"Yaaaaaaaaasssss! Team USA! That boat is massive!," wrote another fan.
"What an entry by team USA. The Olympics are here. With a unique opening ceremony," a user commented.
Several other fans stated that the team needed a bigger boat as they looked 'stranded on a sea'.
"Why do they look stranded at sea", a user wrote.
"Team USA boat was so crowded, gonna tell my kids someday this was it", another fan commented.
"'We are going to need a bigger boat'," another fan stated.
Can Team USA continue their dominance at the Paris Olympics 2024?
With over twice as many medals as the next-best nation, the United States of America has won the most at the Olympic Games. The nation has earned an incredible 2985 medals since the start of the Games, 1183 gold, while the Soviet Union is second with 1205 medals.
At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, they won 113 medals, and this year, expectations are high for an increased medal tally at the Paris Olympics. This is due to the fact that strong performances are anticipated from their track and field and swimming teams. The two sports are the major contributors to their nation’s tally.
With Noah Lyles, Sha'Carri Richardson, Thomas Heilman, and Gretchen Walsh, among many others, in top form at the right time, Team USA can expect to cross the mark of 120 medals in Paris. Meanwhile, veterans Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Katie Ledecky, Caeleb Dressel, and others will look to continue their dominance and defend their gold medals in Paris.
