U.S. women’s national team head coach Emma Hayes has disclosed why she dropped experienced striker Alex Morgan for the team to the Olympic Games.

Emma Hayes, speaking on the "Women’s Game" podcast, disclosed that she wanted to give other players exposure and experience to play on the big stage.

"The cap accumulation down our roster is too low. We need to start giving exposure and experiences to players that might have been in and around," Hayes said [at 22:20].
"It helps when players can be a little more versatile, but it's not the sole decision. When it comes to Alex (Morgan), there's no easy way to give someone bad news," she added.
