Gabby Thomas had an enviable season in 2024, and she is now preparing to keep that momentum going next year. Recently, the American was joined by her pet dog, Rico, in her training session, with her coach keeping track of the pug while she completed her exercise routine.
After winning the 200m bronze at the 2020 Olympics and silver at the 2023 World Championships, Thomas outdid herself this season. After a strong start to her year, the 27-year-old stormed to three gold medals at the Paris Olympics, the 200m, the 4x100m, and the 4x400m.
Now, after a short break, the American is back to training as she prepares for her 2025 season. Recently, she was joined in her workout session by her pet dog, Rico, with her coach, Bailey Tonja. The 53-year-old shared a video of the pug on her Instagram story, and Gabby Thomas reposted this video to her own Instagram story, joking,
“Bring your child to work day.”
Thomas had an impressive 2024 event outside of her exploits at the Paris Olympics. Her season saw her win the London Diamond League, USATF New York City Grand Prix, New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, and more.
Gabby Thomas films a hilarious social media challenge with her coach
While Gabby Thomas has returned to training, it isn't all work and no play for the Olympic champion. Recently, the American and her coach, Bailey Tonja, participated in the viral ‘we listen and we don't judge’ challenge on social media, leading to some hilarious revelations.
On her end, Thomas revealed that she doesn't always need to use the bathroom she asks for permission to go to, while also disclosing that she sometimes skips workouts during the break, saying,
“Sometimes when you send us workouts to do over the break, I pretend to do them.”
Meanwhile, Thomas' coach revealed that she doesn't always care how her students are feeling during a workout. Tonja also added that she would time reps without telling her runners, saying,
“Sometimes, when I say I'm not actually timing the rep, I'm timing it. I'm definitely timing it.”
As Gabby Thomas trains for the upcoming season, she has yet to reveal what her competition schedule for the year will look like. However, she has signed with Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam Track and will be in action for those fours meets, with her ultimate focus likely on the 2025 World Championship.
