Michael Phelps recently looked back with nostalgia on the 2004 Athens Olympics, especially the 200m men's freestyle event, where Ian Thorpe impressed. While Phelps collected eight medals at the 2004 edition, Thorpe bagged four, including two gold, one silver, and one bronze medal.
The American and the Australian swimmer locked horns in the 200m men's freestyle event, with the latter emerging victorious after clocking a stunning time of 1:44.71 to register an Olympic record. He was followed by Peter Van Dan Hoogenband and the legendary swimmer Phelps, who clocked timings of 1:45.23 and 1:45.32, respectively.
Phelps' listed time also marked a new American record of the event. 10 years after the race, the American reminisced about the moment, calling it a fun race.
"Fun race with fellas," he wrote. "Brings back so many memories."
