Noah Lyles aimed a dig at Kishane Thompson’s fitness as he won the men’s 100m preliminaries at the Jamaican Championships. The 22-year-old clocked 9.82 seconds to cross the finish line at the National Stadium in Kingston.

The 22-year-old has been battling injuries that forced him to miss the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. After missing out on the global bonanza at the Hungarian capital, Thompson bounced back at the Prefontaine Classic to claim fourth place.

The Jamaican championships was Kishane Thompson's first race in the 2024 season, and he impressed in the 100m heats by clocking 9.82 seconds, which was the quickest time throughout the event so far. World Indoor Championships bronze medalist Ackeem Blake finished second behind the 22-year-old, clocking 9.95m.

Noah Lyles was told about Thompson's performance in the heats in Kingston while speaking to the media during the ongoing U.S. Olympic Trials. The world champion responded to the Jamaican's performance by saying:

"Alright nice, let’s hope he stays healthy," Lyles told Citius Magazine.

Several fans reacted to Noah Lyles' comment on Kishane Thompson, with one noting that the 26-year-old was excited for the youngster and hoped that he would maintain his form going into the Paris Olympics.

"I think Noah is excited for Kishane & welcomes the competition because it means more eyes for him & his sport. Plus, if he beats the best competition, it's a better look for him in terms of ratings. Like it was for Bolt," one fan wrote.

Noah Lyles through to 200m semifinals at U.S. Olympic trials

Noah Lyles oozed class in the men’s 200m preliminaries, clocking 20.10 to easily claim top honours in his heat at the US track and field Olympic trials.

The three-time world champion beat Robert Gregory and John Rutledge, who finished second and third with times of 20.38 and 20.43 respectively.

Meanwhile, having advanced to the semifinal at the trials, Lyles will lock horns with his brother Josephus Lyles, Dominic Yancy, and Christian Coleman among others competing in Heat 3. Others who advanced to the semifinals include Erriyon Knighton, Kyree King, Kenny Bednarek, and Lindsey Courtney.

Before his performance at the 200m heats, Noah Lyles produced an even better performance in the discipline at the USATF New York City Grand Prix.
