Two-time World Championships medalist, Brody Malone is all set to make his all-around comeback at the upcoming Xfinity US Gymnastics Championships (scheduled between May 30 and June 2). This comes after the three right foot surgeries that the 24-year-old went through last year.
Malone went through a horrible fall in a gymnastics competition in Stuttgart during which he twisted his right leg resulting in a fracture. Moreover, he also suffered a tear in his left PCL (Posterior Cruciate Ligament) and LCL (Lateral Collateral Ligament).
Owing to this, he had to undergo the first of his three surgeries in Frankfurt, Germany, and then a second surgery after his return to Stanford. He underwent another third surgery a couple of months later. During this tenure, the Florida native was also bedridden for nearly a month and also had to miss two crucial tournaments (the US National Championships and the World Gymnastics Championships).
Malone made his comeback to the mat in January earlier this year during which he performed only rings and pommel horse and then in the Winter Games he added another apparatus (parallel bars) to his event list.
Now, as he makes his comeback in the all-around competition nearly after a year, Malone will look to make a strong statement just before the Paris Olympics 2024 trials scheduled next month. Recently, in an interview with NBC Sports, Brody Malone opened up about his aspirations of making it to the Olympics this year. The 24-year-old stated:
"You never know how bad you really want something until it gets taken away from you. Of course, before my injury, I was like, yeah, I want to go to the Olympics. But now when I had that opportunity kind of taken away, it made me realize, wow, I really do want to go, so that’s kind of what has been pushing me now."
