"If you want to be great, you got to put your all into it" - Sha'Carri Richardson on how her grandmother inspired her to achieve major feats
Sha'Carri Richardson started her athletics journey after getting inspired by her aunt Shayaria Richardson, who was her first coach. Richardson was raised by her aunt and grandmother after her biological mother abandoned her.
During an interview with Teen Vogue in February 2022, she revealed an incident that motivated her to pursue glorious feats. She remembered asking for a medal plaque from her grandmother, who pushed her to achieve medal-winning performances if she wanted one.
“My grandmother made [my mother] a big plaque full of medals and I saw it one day and was like, ‘I want that. I want you to bring me one, Granny.’ And [my grandmother] was like, ‘Well you got to do something to get some medals'," Sha'Carri said. "And honestly from then on it was just like, ‘If you want to do something, if you want to be great, you got to put your all into it.'”
Sha'Carri Richardson will make her debut Olympic appearance at the 2024 Paris Olympics after missing the opportunity during the Tokyo Games, citing a drug ban.
