Aleksander Kilde recently opened up on the initial improvements in the recovery process following the nasty fall in Wengen. The Norwegian navigated an injury-ridden year following his crash during a World Cup downhill race in Lauberhorn in Wengen, Switzerland on January 13, 2024.
Kilde suffered devastating injuries, including a dislocated shoulder and a cut in his calf. He had to be airlifted from the snowy mountains to a hospital in Bern. Since then, the Norwegian skier has been undergoing a recovery and rehabilitation process, with a few episodes of infection in his shoulder.
The 32-year-old is a brand ambassador for Audi, and a recent video series collaboration of the two, named "Kilde.unscripted", was launched on Youtube. In the first episode, Kilde reflected on the emotional and overwhelming experience of standing up again after being in a wheelchair following the accident. The Norwegian stated that it was an emotional moment which almost brought tears to his eyes.
"The feeling of getting out of that wheelchair I don't know how to describe it," Kilde said. "I'm 180m but I feel like I'm 250m tall. And everything, you know, the tables and everything, it has been up here (pointing to his face) and now I could look down on it. It was this very interesting feeling, just the feeling of standing. That was, yeah, almost brought a tear to my eye, honestly." (6:15 onwards)
Mikaela Shiffrin's fiancé Aleksander Kilde returns to skiing after withdrawing from the entire 2024/25 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup season
Aleksander Kilde recently returned to snowy mountains after pulling out from the entire 2024/25 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup season. Making a return to the slope earlier, he had to pace down after an injury setback. The skier had to undergo another surgery on his shoulder followed by four months of rehab before he could fully start training again, forcing him to back off from the season.
"Alright guys, let’s keep it short: it’s been a wild journey so far and we‘re not entirely done yet. One more surgery, one more rehab, and no racing this winter. But trust me - I‘ll be back."
However, a few days after the withdrawal update, he was seen gracefully sliding through the slopes. Sharing the video from his recent skiing session he wrote:
"Doc’s gave me permission to do some cruising, and trust me I’m soaking it in🥰"
So far in his career, Aleksander Kilde has secured two Olympic medals.
