California International Marathon 2024 Results: Tsegay Weldlibanos defeats CJ Albertson to win men's race, Calli Thackery takes women's title

The 2024 California International Marathon conducted on Sunday (December 8). Established in 1983, this was the 41st edition of the event and was graced by approximately 10,000 runners.

The course of the event is 26.2 miles long and spans from the Folsomm Dam to the State Capitol. This marathon event is also recognized as an official qualifying event for the Boston World Marathon Major.

In the elite male division of this 2024 marathon, Tsegay Weldlibanos, an Arizona native, won the title after clocking a run-time of 2:07:35. This was Weldlibanos' second podium finish in the 2024 season after a second-place finish at the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon.

Weldlibanos defeated California's CJ Albertson in Sacramento by a margin of little under three minutes to win this event. Albertson eventually clinched the second position in 2:10:06 while Arizona native Nick Hauger secured a third-place finish in 2:11:55.

Among the female runners, two-time European Championships gold medalist Calli Hauger-Thackery held the top spot with a run-time of 2:24:28. This was Hauger-Thackery's third podium finish of the season after the AJ Bell Great North 5K (first) and the Big half event at the UK Championships (second).

Massachusetts native Jacqueline Gaughan and Arizona native Stephanie Bruce clinched the second and third positions among the female runners with run-times of 2:24:40 and 2:28:41 respectively.

The winners of the California International Marathon 2024 bagged prize money of $15,000 while the second and third-placed contestants will get $10,000 and $8,000 respctively.
