After Noah Lyles claimed that he didn't think Quincy Hall would be a good option to pick on his 4x400m relay team, the U.S. champion fired back at the world champion with some tough words. Fans rushed in support of Hall while some expressed excitement over the budding rivalry.

Speaking on a podcast earlier, Lyles reiterated his stance that he wanted to be on the 4x400m relay team. He was asked to pick his team for the Paris Olympics, and he chose himself, Chris Bailey, Michael Norman, and Rai Benjamin. U.S. 400m champion Quincy Hall was left out, with Lyles claiming he wouldn't be a good starter.

Hall responded to Lyles' comments on X and claimed that he was ready to race anyone. The 25-year-old also called out the world champion for speaking about him on the podcast.

"@LylesNoah I don’t bother nobody but my blocks ready anytime you feel like you can beat me in the 400 you was talking to much on my name on yo little podcast @TrackWorldNews1. I don’t do the little slick comments and remarks I line up," he wrote.

Track and field fans online expressed excitement as the new rivalry seemingly started, though it's unlikely Lyles will shift to the 400m.

"Can we set up this 1v1 @RaesTake", a fan wrote.

"This is what track needs… RIVALRIES AND MAKE THE AUDIENCE CARE," another fan wrote.
"This should be one of the most chaotic build ups to the Olympics, no?", a user commented.

Noah Lyles is not a 400m runner while Quincy Hall is the ninth fastest American of all time in the distance. The odds are evident as to who will win the battle if it ever happens.

Noah Lyles won three gold medals at the world championships last year. He has expressed the desire to go after 4 gold medals at the Paris Olympics to become the only sprinter in history to do so. To achieve that, Lyles needs to compete in the 4x400m relay along with his three signature events of 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay.

The 27-year-old has run 400m only once in his career, and the 4x400m relay only twice. Although it’s doubtful that he will be named in the relay team, he does have an outside chance, especially after running a 45.68s split at the World Athletics Indoor Championships 2024, which was the fastest third leg split of the competition.

Despite that performance, if Noah Lyles manages to win gold in all three of his signature events, he could be given a chance to chase history and run for gold in the 4x400m relay.
