Louisville Volleyball's Anna DeBeer shared an emotional video from the team's locker room, as she bid goodbye after the conclusion of the NCAA Division 1 Season. The American athlete packed her gear one last time as she reflected on her time with the Louisville Women's Division 1 Volleyball Team.
DeBeer was unable to compete in the NCAA Women's Division I Volleyball finals after sustaining an injury to her ankle during the semi-finals in Pittsburgh. Penn State dominated the finals to win their eighth NCAA title, defeating Louisville with a score of 3-1 (25-23, 32-34, 25-20, 25-17).
Cardinals star hitter Anna DeBeer, who was competing in her fifth year with the team, was seen cheering them on from the sidelines. However, fans felt her absence affected the team's performance.
Sofia Maldonado Diaz and Charitie Luper tried their best to fill DeBeer's void with 20 and 21 kills, respectively, but it was not enough to stop the Nittany Lions.
Anna DeBeer took to TikTok to share a video from the team's locker room as she packed her belongings while leaving the facility one last time as a student-athlete. She got emotional while removing her name badge from the top of her locker and sat on her seat to let the moment sink in.
"I always knew this day would come.. but I can’t believe it’s here #volleyball #louisvillevolleyball #ncaavolleyball," read the caption.
Anna DeBeer on Louisville Volleyball losing in the NCAA Division 1 finals
Anna DeBeer spoke about Louisville Volleyball's loss in the NCAA Women's Division 1 Volleyball finals. She broke down in tears as she expressed her disappointment at being unavailable to compete in the finals due to her injury.
DeBeer said (via WDRB News on YouTube):
“It's very unfortunate, just the situation with my injury, and it just seemed like all the stars were aligning for such a perfect game in Louisville, finishing my career. We worked so freaking hard all year to get where we are, and it was just so close. So, I think that's what's really hard.”
Moreover, she lauded Louisville Volleyball for putting up an incredible show in the finals.
"We just said it wasn't our best day; it wasn’t always going our way, but that second set showed the fight that our team has in us. But I would have done anything to be out there, and that's the hardest part," she added.
Furthermore, DeBeer opined that the team did everything in their capacity to help her recover quickly from the ankle injury but they decided not to take a risk, considering her future.
