"Can't wait"- Alica Schmidt expresses excitement as she gears up to compete in a new event in her first race of the 2025 season

Alica Schmidt announced her first track appearance for the 2025 season while gearing up for the race in South Africa. Schmidt will compete in her first race of the 2025 season at the Czech Indoor Gala event.

The event will be held at the Athletic Hall Ostrava on February 4. The Czech Indoor Gala is a part of the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold. Schmidt will be seen competing in the 800m event alongside a star-studded line-up, including Kimberley Ficenec, Paris Olympic silver medalist Tsige Duguma, and European Championships silver medalist Gabriela Gajanova.

The German sprinter, who began her training for the 2025 season in October 2024, is currently training in Potchefstroom, South Africa, following a high-endurance training camp. While posing for a picture with her fellow training partners in South Africa, she conveyed her excitement for her first race of the season.

"Can't wait to race with these girls next week," she wrote.

The 400m and 4x400m relay specialist has fixed her sight on competing in the 800m events this season.

"Indoor season is about to start," she wrote. "And this time over the 800m."

Schmidt clinched a silver medal in the 400m event at the 2022 German Indoor Athletics Championships with a time of 52.80 seconds.

Alica Schmidt represented the German athletics squad in the French capital, competing alongside her teammates Paul Bredau, Manuel Sanders, and Eileen Demes in the 4x400m mixed relay event, where they finished in seventh place in the heats round.

Following the Olympic campaign, the 26-year-old expressed her excitement in taking up a new challenge and competing in the 800m.

"After Paris, I tried something new and ran a 800m & 600m and really enjoyed pushing out of my comfort zone," she wrote. "Back in 2022, I decided that I wanted to give the 800m a shot after the Paris Olympics, so now it means… I’m going for it next year."

She added:

"I‘m super excited for this new challenge and what it will bring ✨ (I‘m also going to run the 400m but focus more on the endurance part in training for now) Let this journey begin."
