After a terrific Day 4 with Summer McIntosh's world-class performance at the Canadian Swimming Olympic & Paralympic Trials, the event is now done with Day 5 as well. Five days into the competition, multiple athletes have delivered remarkable performances and one of them is Sebastian Massabie. He has yet again broken his Canadian record in the 50m backstroke event.
The swimmers are vying for a spot to compete in the Paris Olympics at the Canadian Swimming Olympic & Paralympic trials. Summer McIntosh was absent on Day 5 as her name was scratched from the women's 100m freestyle event. However, Mary-Sophie Harvey and Penelope Oleksiak gracefully dominated the 100m freestyle in the 17-year-old's absence.
Fighting alone in the men's 50m backstroke Para at the Canadian Swimming Olympic & Paralympic trials, Sebastian Massie focused on cruising faster towards the yellow line and nabbing a powerful victory. He broke his own Canadian record of 55.02 seconds and clocked an impressive 53.74. This isn't the first day where Massabie erased his own record to re-write with a new one.
Multiple impressive performances in other events were delivered at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre on May 17, from the women's 50m Backstroke to the men's 200m butterfly.
On that note, let us take a look at the results of the fifth day of the Canadian Swimming Olympic & Paralympic Trials.
