Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is officially back to business for the Olympic season and fans couldn't be more excited at the times she's clocking. The Tokyo 400mH gold-medalist competed in the 200m at the LA Grand Prix, sprinting to the gold.
Initially, McLaughlin-Levrone was scheduled to race the longer 400m at the Drake Stadium, before she pulled out of that in order to race the shorter sprint. While fans were surprised at the hurdler switching events, her results have shut down any questions about her decision.
Racing on Saturday, the American beat a field full of 200m superstars that included Gabby Thomas, Abby Steiner, and Rhasidat Adeleke. She clocked a 22.07 for her gold while running against the wind, shaving nearly half a second off of her personal best. This time also makes her the second-fastest woman this year in the event, with the world lead being a 22.03 achieved by McKenzie Long.
Reacting to this incredible feat by Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, one fan expressed their awe about the sprinter, writing,
“Casually reminding us why she is the greatest of all time.
Another fan chimed in to say,
“This. Was. Insane. And is she running in flats? Jesus"
Here is how a few other fans reacted to Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone winning the LA Grand Prix.
“DON'T SLEEP ON SYDNEY…..EVER,” one fan wrote.
“She might f*ck around go sub 50 in the hurdles at trials,” another added.
“Play with ya kid not Syd, smoked Gabby donim happy,” a netizen wrote.
“That season opener finna be brazy,” yet another track and field enthusiast chimed in.

Meanwhile, despite clocking a near-world lead in 200m and beating some of the event's best athletes on Saturday, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is firmly zoned in on only the 400mH for the Olympic trials.
Last year, the two-time Olympic gold-medalist had expanded her horizons to the flat 400m, clocking a world lead and winning a national championship before her season was cut short by a small PCL tear.
Now, McLaughlin-Levrone is back to competing and intends to stay focused on her title defense at the Paris Olympics. Her coach and agent, Bobby Kersee, confirmed the sprinter’s intentions, telling NBC,
“I think Sydney’s love is the 400m hurdles, and so that’s the number one event, that’s her main event. That’s what we want to defend our Olympic championship in. My job is to make sure that she gets ready for the one that she wants to do the most.”
Kersee also confirmed that the American would be willing to run the women's and mixed 4x400m relays at the Games.
