Chicago Marathon 2024: Full list of elite athletes ft. Ruth Chepngetich

The 2024 Chicago Marathon will kick off on Sunday, October 13, starting from Grant Park at the intersection of Columbus Drive and Monroe Street. Renowned as one of the World Marathon Majors (WMM), this is the 46th installment of the event.

The marathon, known for its fast races, witnessed a historic moment last year when Kelvin Kiptum established a new world record in the men’s elite category with a remarkable time of 2:00:35 as he shattered Eliud Kipchoge’s previous record of 2:01:09. Following the ratification of the Kenyan athlete's world record in Chicago, he tragically passed away in a road accident. To honor his legacy, this year's edition of the marathon will pay tribute to the late runner.

This year’s Chicago Marathon is expected to be a challenging event, featuring elite runners like Amos Kipruto, Vincent Ngetich, Ruth Chepngetich, and Sutume Kebede, among others.

Kipruto claimed victory at the London Marathon in 2022, one of the World Marathon Majors titles, and also earned the bronze medal in the marathon event at the 2019 World Championships. Meanwhile, Ngetich is another top name to look out for in the men’s field, who finished as the runner-up in the 2023 Berlin Marathon.

In the women’s section at the Chicago Marathon, all eyes will be on two-time champion Ruth Chepngetich as she takes center stage in Chicago streets. Sutume Kebede, who collected the Tokyo Marathon Major title this year, is expected to pose a serious challenge to Chepngetich.

Wave 1, wave 2, and wave 3 for the marathon will begin at 7:30 AM, 8:00 AM, and 8:35 AM respectively on October 13. With this, let’s take a look at the full list of elite runners who will be competing in the 2024 edition:
