Christian Coleman turned heads in a black-and-white outfit at the 2024 Bowerman Award ceremony. In 2017, he was honored with The Bowerman as Tennessee's first winner of the highest accolade for the best student-athlete in American collegiate track and field history.
Coleman, the world record holder in the 60m, kicked off 2024 with a 60m win at the World Indoor Athletics Championships. His rivalry with fellow American sprinter Noah Lyles was one of the track and field highlights this year. At the Paris Olympics, he had a shot at the 4x100m relay gold but was disqualified owing to a botch during baton exchange.
While on an off-season break, the Olympian attended the 2024 Bowerman award ceremony, donning a stunning a black-and-white outfit. On December 23, 2024, he received a shout-out from The Bowerman, seven years after he walked home with the honor following an impressive NCAA season.
The official Instagram handle of The Bowerman posted a picture of Coleman along with the caption:
"Yo, @_coleman2! How has it been seven years since you won The Bowerman and gave the @sec its fourth consecutive triumph on the men’s side!? It was great having you back at the Presentation last week.
Leo Neugebauer, the University of Texas German decathlete, was announced as the 2024 winner, joining Christian Coleman and other past honorees on stage. Neugebauer set the world decathlon best in the discus and won both the NCAA Outdoor Decathlon and Indoor Heptathlon.
Notably, Coleman won the 60m gold and 100m silver at the 2016 SEC Indoors. He continued his momentum at the NCAA Outdoors, finishing runners-up in both the 100m and 200m. At the 2017 National Indoors, he won the 60m and 200m and unfurled his excellence at the Outdoor edition, winning the 100m and the 200m.
Christian Coleman attended the award ceremony with fellow past Bowerman honoree Sha'Carri Richardson
While Christian Coleman was the 2017 winner of The Bowerman, Sha'Carri Richardson received the acclaim in 2019. She enjoyed a successful season with Louisiana State University, breaking the 100m collegiate record at the 2019 NCAA Division I Championships. At the 2024 award ceremony, she was on the stage when Parker Valby was announced the winner for her exceptional season, during which she won four National titles.
Coleman took to his Instagram story to share a snap of Richardson leaning against a wall with her posters. She sported a sleek hairstyle and signature nails to go with the beige suit. In awe of the reigning 100m world champion, Coleman wrote:
"You kinda cool I guess"
The athletes will next take the track in 2025, building up to the Tokyo World Athletics Championships.
