Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was spotted working on her starts in Paris ahead of her last Olympic appearance. Although the Jamaican’s knee was taped, she looked strong and fans have backed her to win the 100m crown.
Fraser-Pryce has been battling a series of knee injuries over the last couple of years. She only competed in a handful of races last year and clocked a best of 10.91 at the Jamaican National Championships to qualify for the Paris Olympics 2024.
The two-time 100m Olyo champion was slated to compete at the Spitzen Leichtathletik Luzern in Switzerland on July 16 but withdrew moments before the start of the race. Fraser-Pryce claimed she ‘felt something’ during the warm-ups and withdrew as a precautionary measure.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was finally spotted back in action after landing with the Jamaican squad in Paris ahead of the Olympics. She was practicing her block starts and although not at her best, the 37-year-old looked good for a sub 10.7s run, which could get her a medal.
"Am I the only one seeing this form. we know you got this!!!," a fan wrote.
"I see a gold medal. Pls God," another fan wrote.
"Coming for her things and her things are golden," a user stated.
Several fans hoped the 37-year-old beat Sha'Carri Richardson at the Paris Olympics 2024.
"Hope she beats Richardson," a fan wrote.
"Aunty gonna come in clutch for that Gold," a user commented.
"…….maybe Ty was right. Maybe when he said “don’t argue with me argue wit yo mammy” he was on to something. I mean…from the eye test she looks good, but is it good enough….is it good enough for the podium…," a user wrote.
A look into Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s Olympic greatness ahead of her final appearance at the Paris Olympics 2024
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won her first Olympic medal in Beijing 2008. She was a relatively unknown sprinter back then and entered the Games as an underdog. The 37-year-old stunned everyone with a blistering 10.78s to win the 100m title.
Following a world title in 2009, Fraser-Pryce defended her 100m title at the 2012 London Olympics. She also secured silver medals in the 200m and 4x100m relay events and followed it up with triple titles at the 2013 World Championships.
Although Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce hasn't won any gold medals at the 2016 and 2020 Tokyo Olympics with Elaine Thompson-Herah taking the baton from her, she won the silver medal in the 100m in Tokyo along with a bronze in the 4x100m relay.
With Thompson-Herah out of the Olympics, Fraser-Pryce will have a chance to end her career on a high with a 100m gold but it won't be easy. However, it would be interesting to watch the Jamaican take on Sha’Carri Richardson in another head-to-head battle.
